Vertigo Management

Home / Vertigo Management

Vertigo is a sensation of spinning, dizziness, or loss of balance that may arise from disorders of the inner ear or other parts of the balance system. Common causes include Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), inner-ear infections, Ménière’s disease, vestibular disorders, and other conditions affecting balance. Effective vertigo management begins with a detailed evaluation to identify the underlying cause. Assessment may include a clinical examination, hearing evaluation, balance testing, and other investigations when required. Treatment is tailored to the individual’s condition and may include specific repositioning manoeuvres such as the Epley manoeuvre for BPPV, medicines for selected conditions, vestibular rehabilitation, or treatment of an underlying ear disorder. Patients are also advised on appropriate lifestyle and safety measures to reduce the risk of falls and recurrent symptoms. Early evaluation is important, particularly when vertigo is persistent, recurrent, or associated with hearing loss, severe headache, weakness, or other neurological symptoms.
