Thyroid Surgeries

Home / Thyroid Surgeries

Thyroid Surgery is a specialized procedure used to treat various conditions affecting the thyroid gland, including thyroid nodules, goitre, thyroid cysts, and thyroid cancers. Surgery may involve removing part of the thyroid gland (hemithyroidectomy) or the entire gland (total thyroidectomy), depending on the nature, size, and extent of the condition. A thorough evaluation, including clinical examination, thyroid function tests, ultrasound, and, when required, fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), helps determine the appropriate treatment approach. During surgery, careful attention is given to important structures near the thyroid, including the recurrent laryngeal nerves and parathyroid glands, to help preserve voice function and calcium regulation. The goal is to safely remove abnormal thyroid tissue while protecting surrounding healthy structures. Thyroid surgery may provide effective treatment for both benign and malignant thyroid conditions, with the surgical plan tailored to each patient’s individual diagnosis and medical requirements.
