Phonosurgery

Home / Phonosurgery

Phonosurgery is a specialized form of surgery focused on treating disorders of the vocal cords and voice box (larynx) that affect voice quality, speech, or vocal function. It may be recommended for conditions such as vocal cord nodules, polyps, cysts, certain benign lesions, vocal cord scars, or other structural abnormalities that do not respond adequately to voice therapy or medical treatment. The procedure is performed with the aim of removing or correcting the underlying problem while preserving as much healthy vocal cord tissue as possible. Depending on the condition, advanced microscopic or endoscopic techniques may be used to achieve precise treatment. A detailed voice assessment and examination of the vocal cords are important before surgery to identify the cause of the voice problem and determine the most appropriate approach. Phonosurgery, combined with appropriate voice therapy and follow-up, can help improve voice quality, vocal function, and communication.
